It would be more intuitive, faster, and more in-line with the rules as written to leave the pieces on the board during redeployment, and allow the player to move them, if they wish. Especially since, most of the time, your troops are already on the front line where you want them, when conquering is done, so making us pick them all up and put them back down again, is just adding lots of extra clicks. :)
