Even though each bird's power is optional, some players will want to trigger them as often as possible. It would speed up games, particularly turn-based ones where players aren't the same time zone, if players had the option to automatically trigger such cards when the opportunity arises.
Some powers, such as that of the Belted Kingfisher or the Loggerhead Shrike, require no further input from the player beyond the decision to activate the power.
Other powers may require actual input from the player in the form of choosing a bird to lay eggs on (where multiple valid choices exist) or choosing which die to gain food from (since seeds and invertebrates could potentially be available on different dice). These powers should still be benefit from automation in the cases where there is only one valid choice for the benefit, but should otherwise default back to the player for the decision. -

Roll-istor an danevelloù bog
For example, birds that give a free food on opponent's turn. "Gain a fish from the supply if a player plays a bird in the wetlands". These birds should be automatic unless someone turns off a preference. The same is true if a bird triggers checking a wingspan or drawing a card from the deck.
Many cards now feature a gear at the bottom right of the card, which shows a green "play" arrow if the power will automatically take place, and a yellow "pause" icon to stop and give the player a choice. Bird powers for which there is no legitimate reason to refuse a benefit in the base game are set to automatically activate by default. Enabling automatic activation for some birds requires choosing a target, such as for laying egg powers.
The gear icons can be hidden under the "Auto-Activation buttons" user preference for players who do not wish to see them.
Automatic activations (and their targets, when applicable) are visible to all players and thus avoid invalidating undo save points.
Bird powers which involve gaining food from the bird feeder intentionally do not have automatic activation options, as this introduces greater complexity and potentially changes the game in light of the previous point. I may reconsider and invest more time if vultures and magpies continue to be a source of frustration for turn-based players.
