I agree, and would add the same for groups - I'm a member of 3 groups but generally only playing real time in one of those groups at once - it is frustrating when all the messages from other groups as well as friends keep appearing in the game log - would be great to be able to toggle messages on/off.

I don't personally use the game log, but when I see it, I don't understand why they put so much info on friend's activity. This isn't Facebook. Most of us rarely know their BGA "friends" personally. So, while we enjoy playing with them, we are not quite as interested in their activity.

It's such a shame to have such a well implemented moves log only to have it spammed by the random activity of people coming online/offline.

In this day and age I'm either seeking a random game with people I don't know on BGA (very rare) or I'm connecting with friends or community members elsewhere to propose a game. In other words, I don't need BGA itself to act as the 'lobby', especially from inside of a game!!!!

The friend connection info can be useful, but the game log is definitely a wrong place for it.
Even notification about one of the in-game players getting disconnected/reconnected would better be moved out of the log
e.g., replaced with some "un-plugged" icon blinking over currently disconnected player's avatars.

Strongly agree with GTSchemer's comment. Now when I get a friend request it makes me unhappy, because I either have to hurt someone's feelings by rejecting the request, or tolerate even more distractions in the game log.

There is a special icon to see friends' status. Make that blink once when there is some changes.
But keep logs tidy. This is also about including group/tournament chat messages in the log - for big real-time tournaments you might not be able to see the player move at all, not mentioning the ton of sound notifications.

At least, add unique css ID/class to these messages.

I did a friends' clean-up because of the excessive ammount of notifications. I'd find it very reasonable to be able to turn many friends' related notifications on and off.

We will celebrate the 2 years anniversary of this bug report soon and still nothing? There is no reason at all to have friend activity in the Game Logs. Just delete it. This is a simple fix. I'm thinking about sending my resume to BGA just to do something like this story :

The first thing our new hire did was fix a bug that's been bugging him forever as a user prior to joining.
He then breathed a sigh of relief and submitted his two weeks' notice. wtf??

I would like to have the option to remove friends-updates from game logs. (If you have friends with weak connections it can really interfere with working out what's happened in multi-player games.) I frequently have to use F5, but I'd like it if I didn't have to. However, I note that the devs have rejected the previous suggestion of this feature, #25075: "rejected: Developers think that it is not a good idea or that the cost/benefit ratio is too high". I guess this feature is too deeply embedded? Oh well, F5 spamming it is...

It looks like sth. has changed since last June. Game-specific log entries now have the (apparently!) unique class log-replayable, therefore one can exclude all other messages with CSS like this:

#logs > .log:not(.log_replayable) {
display: none !important;
}

I haven’t thoroughly tested this, but #logs > should be enough insurance to prevent side effects.

This is a very annoying thing, hot just for the constant messages, but because it's also telling me that people are online when they're not. I've been asking what they might be doing that is causing this, but they don't know. It will even happen when they are sound asleep! And if they're awake and talking to me, I'll be seeing it happen, and we're all mystified. They're not using multiple tabs, they're not on a mobile device, they're just in one tab, and it's on, off, on, off. As was mentioned above, it's miserable when I have a lot of friends, it's just a long scroll of useless information.

I would like to add new friends.
BUT with only one friend playing often in BGA, I receive in the log during each game made, messages about its different logins/logout. It is unbearable. :(.
So I don't add or request new friends in BGA !
An option must be made. It is possible because a developper have made a Chrome extension for that.
I don't understand hy it is not already in BGA.

I don't even have or want BGA friends and I get unwanted notifications too. Once or twice, I got a message that a random user (not my friend) was online, which was probably just a bug. But I also get spammed constantly with 'suggested' games, usually while I'm already playing a realtime game, which is completely at odds with BGA's karma system as well as just being annoying, invasive and stressful.

This is an absolutely awful 'feature'.

As a very new user of BGA I accepted a friend request from someone (my first friend) only to then keep seeing these notifications pop up constantly that they were online.

I became paranoid and thought they were stalking me!

Not only are these notifications distracting and annoying but made me avoid BGA due to my 'stalker'.

It's very distracting to see the notifications that a friend is online, etc. when you're in a game - especially if it's a new game that you're trying to learn and want to see specific moves of your opponents.

A quick tip to "fix" this.

On the preferences > advanced tab ( boardgamearena.com/preferences?section=advanced ), you can add your own custom CSS.
Adding the following will hide these player notifications:

.notif_playerstatus {
display:none!important;
}

Only downside is that these bug-pages won't work when you have custom CSS ... so you have to clear it if you want to add / reply to a bug.

I wonder if the devs understand that we are not objecting to having the friend info available, just that it doesn't belong in a game log.
Add it as part of our friend section, display it on a separate page, make it time out of the log after 5 minutes, limit it to only players at the current table or add a toggle in settings. If you're not on a game page, it shows in the General Messages. So, why can't it always be there?
There are multiple ways to solve this. They can't all be "not a good idea or the cost/benefit ratio is too high"

I can see the value of these notifications for seeing if a player disconnects during a real-time game, but it's not necessary for asynchronous games and absolutely nonsensical that it shows the status of players who aren't even in the current game.

This is a 5 minute fix : just add a filterable custom CSS around logs showing friends status, like it was done before (there was a "notif_playerstatus" class that you could filter in "advanced" settings).

Please, this is one of the most upvoted bug, it makes some games like Hanabi very hard to play if u have too many friends and they all log out at the same hour.

At least give us an explanation on why u think this is hard to implement.
