Roll-istor an danevelloù bog
This is on my laptop, which is quite old. (Firefox 52.9.0 ESR) However, all other games I've tried on this site work, so it appears you are doing something that nobody else does with your code.
I see a reference to threejs.org/examples/#webgl_animation_cloth on another bug report.
None of those work for me. They are all blank. As that page mentions WebGL, I assume it wants to use that, but it doesn't test if it is available.
It is really strange as canvas and webgl are supported for a while by all browsers :
caniuse.com/#feat=webgl
I suggest you try to see if some settings actually disable this on your browser.
My laptop was built before WebGL 1.0 was released. The driver is blacklisted by Firefox, so changing browsers or browser versions isn't going to help.
At least, I'd suggest you detect for it and put up a message (e.g. as get.webgl.org/ does), rather than just presenting a blank screen.
The best would be to be able to detect this before launching the game to prevent any karma penalities for not being able to play in the game.
I'll discuss this with BGA admin since this is unique on BGA
And no any warning about WebGL, by the way((
Sorry, but a browser this old we cannot guarantee support. We built the game in 2020 using current web technologies, which have changed in the intervening 4 years. It's time to move on.
Of course now we have 3D-printers amd Photoshop it's much easier to make any sculptures and pictures, but I don't think anyone would dare to say that traditional artistry is to be abandoned and "it's time to move on" ;)
And if I ever upgrade my faithful netbook, there's a Tabletopia with hundreds of WebGLery stuff you'll have to compete with...
It is the designers' call to favour prettiness over functionality, but it still would be good practice to detect the lack of WebGL support prior to starting the game, rather than luring players in and then having them unable to even abandon.
The JavaScript language has changed. Various new features that we are using didn't exist in the language many years ago. Is it possible to make a game without using the new technologies? Sure. Will we do it? No way. Adding compatible for dead systems is a lot more work, it's difficult to test (and I don't have access to any of these legacy systems), and it might make the game code more complex/slower for the 99% of users with modern devices. It's not worth anyone's time to write NEW software for legacy systems that are already end-of-life. Even Microsoft abandoned support for Windows XP (in 2014) and Windows Vista (in 2017). We should not encourage the use of dead systems (which are not secure). If you choose to use something this old, you accept the fact some things just won't work.
There is no point of comparing between BGA adaptation and tabletopia : the game on tabletopia don't enforce rules !!! This was actually most of the developping process since this game is incredibly hard to code with all the rules exception. The 3D rendering is actually the same as the one on tabletopia and also the same as the official app since we are all using the same 3D models...
For the incompatibility detection, as quietmint explained, it's a bit hard to find what exactly causes the incompatibility since you are seeing the cube rotate in the above URL.
For the "luring part", please recall that the game is in beta, so bugs and incompatibilies are also part of the game and our job is precisely to try to figure out and solve this bugs and incompatibilites if it's worth it.
Version 200707-0805 of the game should detect most ancient browsers like Firefox 52 and force you to abandon the game. I've also updated the Wiki "how to play" page to mention that we require an even vaguely modern browser.
