I feel the display of the ranking result (the animation where you get or lose shields) INVASIVE because it hides the page you're at with a mask.
I find that very annoying at each time. This is the same behaviour when you get a new trophy because it does not occurs so often: I think this kind of display should be reserved for results that matter like this. I mean, you know you will win or lose a couple of shields, not a big deal especially if you play Arena a lot. Would be OK if you gain access to the upper ligue though.
How about mimicking the current animation for the Elo gain or loss, directly on the result webpage? I consider this not invasive AND fun :)

Especially on the few occasions where it's happened after I've left bga up on the computer and gone to continue playing in another part of the house via phone. I'm forced into dismissing the nofication twice.

Bozzie0 • K:
18. Mezh 2020 17:54 • I often have to reload the page because the Arena result makes the page unresponsive. I've noticed that when I do this (after I lost), my Arena-points get deducted twice! I should probably register this as a separate bug... Anyone else noticed this behaviour?

21. Gou 2020 12:36 • I don't like this behaviour also, also when a game starts and it is overwriting your current tab (like the bug report page, which let's you lose all what you have written).
A workaround:
* Install uBlock Origin (add blocker)
* Start Element Picker mode and select: splashedNotifications_overlay
You can also add to your filters the following line:
boardgamearena.com###splashedNotifications_overlay
Problem with the workaround is, that you will still hear the sounds. (But you could turn them off in your settings.)

2. Ker 2020 17:41 • I have some tabs open on BGA, one with a bug report I'm writing, during this time I'm finishing (and winning obviously) an arena game, at the end the splash screen is on every tab, the OK button doesn't respond. (Firefox)
I had to inspect element and remove the overlay to keep my comment.
So like I proposed in another bug report I will have a hard time to find because the search is claquée au sol, don't integrate the bugs page with the game system, no "it's your turn" sound, header and favicon on all open bugs page tabs.

1. Mae 2021 19:28 • It's annoying and even more so after a loss, when I really don't need a black screen of doom to rub it in. I play a lot of Arena games. Having to wait for that slow screen to load and play after each game is a frustrating waste of time.

8. Mae 2021 23:58 • It can block you when you're editing a translation too (having two tabs). What if they were only allowed on the home/lobby ? and and option (defaulting to "on" for newcomers) in the game where you just got it ?

5. Eos 2021 16:13 • Not only it is annoying as hell, but it makes the UI even slower and more frustrating. Definitely not only it doesn't add anything to the experience but it makes you angry.
It should actually work like the Elo where you see it in the game result table, and tells you how many points you had (and your opponent's difference also)

Five months? The first timestamp on this report is 2020-02-07, meaning over two years now (and coming up on two years when you wrote this). Having seen many such legitimate issues flat-out ignored by admin (or actually derided in the forums) has made me not merely doubtful but outright cynical about this website. :-/

27. Ker 2022 21:16 • Invasive display is not limited to arena mode... I even did quit the website for probably more than 1 year just because I was pissed of having retarded locked-screens after every game. (You won a game !" "You played 10 games !" "You got 200 ELO !"... -.-
I don't care about fake achievement, please, allow us to disable such noise and just play games, thats why we came here.

It's not a browser-specific issue; it's been happening on Firefox since the inception of the Arena (thus across multiple versions of said browser).

13. Her 2024 11:43 • The rank-up/down and victory/loss overlays have a common problem for this kind of thing: they're fine if you see them once or twice, but if you're playing a game seriously, you see them hundreds of times and your only emotions towards them are hatred, contempt, or apathy. They should be deleted or optional.

11. Cʼhw 2025 18:24 • Hey this still sucks please fix it. It's bad from foundational UI/UX principles: the information being conveyed is front-and-center on the game page, so the big obnoxious splash overlay is not conveying useful new information, it's just getting in the way. This UX choice is bad. Just delete the dang code. Turn it off. It is very bad and should be removed. Especially, it is bad in a way that most affects your most frequent users — you should prioritize fixing that kind of thing.
krinndnz • K:
22. Ebr 2025 4:21 • It's been another three months. Just go delete the code! Everyone hates this behavior, it's absolute deadweight, just go delete it! You, the developer reading this, could do it right now. Just go delete it. Go delete it right now. This behavior wastes players' time. If somehow this is your baby and you couldn't possibly bear that people might be aware of their changed Arena ranking less than instantly, then follow the good and helpful suggestion from YEARS AGO and display it like the ELO changes in the game-results screen. That is a tasteful and appropriate way to display such information. The current behavior is mandatory timewasting. It's outright insulting that if I see the animation start, close the tab before it finishes, then open another BGA tab, the animation starts over again, insisting on its own importance. The time MUST be wasted before I can possibly do anything else whatsoever on BGA. Delete the code for this. This behavior is bad. It is not good. It is a pure waste of players' time. Go delete it. Go delete it right now. Delete all of its implementation. Do not look back. Deleting it is all gain and no loss. Players will like the decision to delete it and will be grateful that they can spend more time playing games and less time waiting for an animation to finish. Only resentful weirdos like me will hold it against you that you took so long to make such an easy decision (the good, virtuous, and correct decision to delete this behavior), everyone else will simply be glad that the site works better, that the world is a little more beautiful with the removal of a time-wasting, purely negative misfeature. Delete the intrusive arena banners. Delete them now. It is within your power to delete them. You don't need anyone's permission. Deleting them is the right thing to do. Go delete them now. Go delete them now. Delete the arena banners. Delete them forever.
