Ideally all players play quickly and don't run out of time. If that is the case, this issue doesn't matter. However the reality is some players are slow and run out of time, even though they are playing and the table still has tons of time left overall to finish the game.
In this case, due to how placement is handled when a player is skipped, losing players can choose to skip them which means:
In Group/Swiss:
- score more points than they would have while reducing the points the leading players would receive.
In knockout:
- qualify for the next stage of the tournament if their account age is oldest
Suggestion is to do one of the following (lower is okay but can still be exploited, top is best):
1. Don't end the game when a player is skipped. Let it play out and use the final placement to resolve the outcome
2. End the game when a player is skipped. Use placement at the start of the most recent turn to resolve outcome
3. End the game when a player is skipped. Use current game state to resolve the outcome
4. Keep as is. Players can exploit and continue to ruin tournaments. -

Roll-istor an danevelloù bog
Started a real time game. As soon as we did, Joshua got off to a bad start, and claimed that he got a phone call from work and could we please please please switch to turn-based.
That was a week ago, the game is still going and Joshua has been late every single time by hours. Sometimes days. Probably cost us all 4 days if you added up all his late time.
I am three moves from an easy victory, so it would cost me win points if the game ended now.
I agree with suggestion 1: Let the game play out without that player. Perhaps turn him into a passive drone car to complete the race, so that a losing player can't disqualify a winning player.
It already happened months ago. The race does now complete without that player. See the Heat wall here: boardgamearena.com/group?id=14686320.
